Jane the Virgin

Have you been watching Jane the Virgin on the CW? It is so great! And funny! And addictive! The show reminds me a lot of Ugly Betty (one of my all-time favorite shows), mostly due to the fact that the storytelling format mimics the twists and turns of a spicy and drama-filled telenovela.

Here’s the plot: Jane made a promise to her grandmother that she would remain a virgin until marriage. She’s engaged to a great guy named Michael, who respects her wishes, when, at a regular appointment with her gyno, she is accidentally artificially inseminated with her boss’s child (he also happens to be a hot hotelier). Dun dun dun! I’m not even ashamed to admit that I crushed almost 10 episodes of the show over the long weekend. (Hey! It was too cold to go out anyway.) ;)

Matt made so much fun of me when I was watching because with each shocking plot twist, I would gasp out loud. I can’t help it! I feel so deeply invested in the show and it’s characters. (Plus, there’s a reason actress Gina Rodriguez, who plays Jane, won a Golden Globe for her role.)

Anyways, you have to watch. Any new TV shows you’re loving right now? Do tell!

PS: An interesting comparison between Jane and Betty.
