This weekend, Matt and I started researching plans for Labor Day. Labor Day. I immediately got freaked out and suggested we make a list of all the things we need to fit in before summer is over and it’s time to bust out our puffer coats yet again. My plan: We’d create a summer bucket list.
The idea came to me via Megan over at the Fresh Exchange. I really like her suggestions for how to build a realistic list, but also one that challenges yourself to try things you’ve never experienced before. Also important to think about (per Megan): Your intentions. What’s the end goal of your bucket list? Is there a feeling you hope to find? Something new you hope to learn so that when September hits, you’ll look back and say, wow, now that was a great summer.
Okay, so here we go. My intention: To get to the end of summer and feel like I experienced a couple of new New York-y things, but also devoted time to savoring my favorite summertime classics (movie night in Brooklyn Bridge Park, ice cream from Blue Marble, riding bikes on Governor’s Island). We’re still brainstorming our list (via shared Google doc), but here are a few things that are at the tippy top:
1) Visiting the Cloisters. It’s a picnic-perfect extension of the Met and I’ve never been. How is this possible after living in NYC for 7.5 years?
2) Hosting an outdoor BBQ in Brooklyn Bridge Park. Those grills + that sunset = the best place ever to entertain in the summer.
3) Watching High Fidelity (or Goodfellas) under the stars. Yes, there’s SyFy Movies with a View, but I’m super intrigued by this new film series in Red Hook. Have you been?
What’s on your summer bucket list?
[…] to the new Whitney Museum? Truth be told, this would have been one of the things at the top of my summer bucket list except that Matt and I finally made it over a couple of weeks ago. The original location was just […]
We’re not new but thanks for the shout out! The series has been aground for nearly ten years. Definitely come check us out.
