Back to the Future

Matt’s co-worker is involved with this awesome group called BBQ Films, and as a result, we got to travel back in time to attend the Enchantment Under the Sea dance, an epic part of the film Back to the Future. Honestly, it was enough just to have the chance to watch that movie on the big screen, but with a crowd dressed in their finest 1950s prom attire? So cool. The organization strives to create an immersive cinematic experience, which means that we got to live out the prom—with Marty and George McFly, Biff, Lorraine, the whole gang—in real time, along with the film. The best part: the money raised goes to a good cause (in this case, the Michael J. Fox Foundation was one of the beneficiaries).

Check out some behind-the-scenes snaps from the photobooth here (the bottom pic above is one we posed for at the party).

What movie would you want to re-live?

Idina Menzel on Broadway

I’m so excited to go and see Idina Menzel on Broadway this week in her new musical, If/Then. It’s about a woman re-building her life in New York City—and it co-stars Anthony Rapp, making this show a Rent reunion of sorts.

Other than the basic premise, I don’t know much about the play, which is how I like it. Matt and I go back and forth on this: he loves to read as much as there is to know about a show in advance of seeing it; I prefer to know the basics, steering clear of too many plot details so that I can experience the show expectation-free. All that said, it’s hard not to go into a show like this expecting incredible music. Idina Menzel is a powerhouse, and I’ve loved her since her Rent and Wicked days.

How about you? Do you like to read up on a play before you see it? Or do you prefer to go into it cold?

April Page: A toast!

Happy April, my darling readers—and happy April Fool’s Day! I’m always a tiny bit nervous on this day: It’s one of Matt’s favorite holidays. He loves a good-natured prank, something that keeps me on my toes all day. 😉

So, September is my favorite month all year, but April comes in at a very close second. The bright spring tulips are reason enough for me to adore this time of year. But I also love that it’s the beginning of baseball season (go Red Sox!), rainy days with pretty umbrellas, and Easter candy (Cadbury mini-eggs are my downfall). A bonus for this month: Princess Kate and Prince William embark on another world tour, this time to Australia. I’m so excited to follow along and see what she wears!

What do you love most about April?

PS: One of my favorite April Fool’s jokes.

Rifle Paper Co. + Garance Doré

Have you had a chance to check out the new stationery line from Garance Doré in partnership with Anna Bond of Rifle Paper Co.? It’s so chic! I’m always in search of pretty notecards for those ‘just because’ occasions, so this weekend, I popped by their NYC pop-up to debut their line. Let me tell you: in person, this collection is even harder to resist. I splurged on the Social Stationery set, an assorted graphic set of thank you, birthday, and love notes, and a new iPhone case. I love it all!

The best part of the temporary shop was how cozy and welcoming it felt on a rainy weekend.

Do you still send handwritten notes?
