How much time do you spend on the phone each day? According to Pamela Paul of the New York Times, not much. In a recent article, she points out an interesting cultural shift: that phone conversations are a thing of the past.
But remember the excitement and joy that only came when the phone would ring? You would wait by the phone all night, terrified you would miss a call from your best friend or the boy of your dreams!
I’ve always been a phone talker ā certainly in my personal life, but often times in business too. I look forward to phone dates with friends and have no problem camping on the phone for an hour or two during a relaxing evening at home. Do you agree with Pamela? Do you cringe when a voicemail pops up? Or do you look forward to daily chats with friends? Let me know your thoughts ā I’d love to hear what you think!

I enjoy daily chats-but think Skype is more fun! Also, I have become a big fan of speakerphone so I don’t have to hold the phone–Yes…Lazy!–If it’s my sister calling, all bets are off–that phone will be answered!
Good point — Skype is definitely another good way to chat and catch up. Glad to know if your sister calls, you answer! š
Our call rates are very expensive over here and in a way it forces you to make use of Skype most of the time.
I find Whatsapp very handy (even though it cuts out the talking part).
But long calls – yes please! š
Wow — that’s good to know. I will definitely look into Whatsapp.
Thanks for the tip Natali!
