Brooklyn dinner with friends

Bu9XRLcIQAA-qNp
Lately, I’ve been doing a lot of summer entertaining in Brooklyn with family and friends coming to town. It can be a challenge to find places to eat that make everyone happy, especially when the heat is on (ooh, those 90 degree days are killer in New York!). Over the last several weeks, I’ve rounded up a handful of crowd-pleasing spots:

FOR A LIGHT BITE WITH A BREEZE
Pair Wine & Cheese has become my new favorite place and it’s perfect for guests looking for a light snack. Plus, if you visit during off hours, you’ll easily score a primo seat on the back porch — a beautiful spot that’s surrounded by tall trees and vine-covered brownstones. Order a sampling of cheeses and a glass of rosé or opt for heartier fare (like the potato raclette).

This one’s easy: Fornino in Brooklyn Bridge Park. The seats are plentiful, the pizza is delicious and the counter-service is quick and simple. Time your meal for sunset — the views of the Statue of Liberty and the Brooklyn Bridge are unreal — and your guests will be impressed.
restaurantFOR DINNER IN AIR CONDITIONING
Buttermilk Channel has an al fresco option, but the interior design of the space is spacious and cool. For guests that need a break from the heat, this Carroll Gardens restaurant is perfect. My favorite part: There’s a separate menu with a full range of entrées just for vegetarians. Oh, and the Buttermilk Whipped Potatoes. Yes, please.
frankiesFOR DINNER UNDER THE STARS
It’s a Brooklyn classic for a reason: Frankie’s 457 has one of the most beautiful backyards for al fresco dining ever. It’s so pretty, they even host weddings here. The Italian-focused menu comes with tons of options — and don’t be surprised if you spot a few flashing fireflies while you’re sipping your wine.

Where do you like to entertain when friends and family come to town?

Catastrophe on Amazon Prime

catastrophe-02Are you watching Catastrophe on Amazon Prime? The show is only a six-episode commitment (at 30 minutes a pop), so no heavy lifting required. I first heard about the original series earlier this summer and finally spent the last couple of weeks getting caught up. It’s adorable!
sharon-horgan-rob-delaney Catastrophe_101_00050_RT_S1The show is about an American guy who gets an Irish lady pregnant during a business trip to London. It stars Sharon Horgan — known to be the Tina Fey of the UK — and Rob Delaney, the Boston comedian with over a million Twitter followers. Even though the show is pegged as a rom-com, it’s actually pretty surprising and real. I think it takes a poignant look at an outlandish situation and shows how a real-life modern non-couple might deal.

Take a peek at the show’s trailer here.

Are you watching this — or anything else — this summer?

Yes way rosé

Is there anything more deliciously summery than rosé? It’s been my go-to drink this summer — it’s so refreshing and thirst-quenching and works perfectly in spritzer form.

Truth: I never met a rosé I didn’t like, but I’ve also never met a rosé as good as this Macedonia blend from Stobi Winery. Macedonia. Who knew? Seriously, it’s incredible — super dry with hints of grapefruit. I love it. Plus, it’s affordable at $13 a bottle. I’m actually debating buying a case. The crazy part is that my local wine shop can’t seem to keep it in stock. Every time they get it, it sells out super quick.

What is your go-to summer drink?
